For the new TV program ‘Het verhaal van Nederland - Amsterdam’ (The Story of the Netherlands – Amsterdam), presented by Daan Schuurmans, we developed the mobile iOS and Android apps. These apps contain GPS-guided audio tours, called Podwalks, that take users through 750 years of history of our capital. Elements was responsible for the design, geofencing technology, and the development of the mobile apps.
Voor het nieuwe NTR-programma 'Het verhaal van Nederland – Amsterdam', gepresenteerd door Daan Schuurmans, hebben we de mobiele iOS- en Android-apps ontwikkeld. Deze apps bevatten GPS-gestuurde audiotours, genaamd Podwalks, die gebruikers meenemen door 750 jaar geschiedenis van onze hoofdstad. Elements was verantwoordelijk voor het design, de geofencing-technologie en de ontwikkeling van de mobiele apps.
The app uses geofencing technology to start audio fragments based on the user's location automatically. This allows users to experience the history of Amsterdam while their phone simply remains in their pocket.
The app includes 11 GPS-guided audio tours that allow users to experience the stories of the city on location. From the medieval origins of Amsterdam to the establishment of the VOC and the creation of the canal ring. Users can walk through the Vondelpark, the Jordaan, or the Bijlmer and discover how the city was shaped by benefactors, migrants, and industry. Daan Schuurmans narrates what happened at specific locations, bringing the story of Amsterdam to life.
The Podwalks of ‘Het Verhaal van Nederland – Amsterdam’ build on the success of the previously developed Podwalk app ‘Het Verhaal van Nederland’. This app, also developed by Elements, offers GPS-guided audio tours throughout the Netherlands and brings the history of the country to life. Users can walk along important historical locations and listen to stories about prehistory, Roman times, the Middle Ages, and more. The addition of Amsterdam as a separate series underscores the rich history of our capital and offers a unique city experience.
The mobile app is developed for both iOS and Android. Our team implemented geofencing, where areas are defined with coordinates and a specific radius. The device's location service monitors, with permission, the user's location. When the user enters a specific geofence, the corresponding audio is automatically started. This ensures a seamless experience, even when the phone is locked and in your pocket.
